Ann M. Shugarts

Ann M. Shugarts, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed from this life on Saturday, July 27, 2024, while a patient in O’Brien’s Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, Ohio, following a period of declining health. She was 84.

Ann was born January 29, 1940, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter to Homer & Catherine (Lucy) Hill.

On September 4, 1964, she married a gentleman by the name of Frank Shugarts. Together they held hands for the next 57 years, until his passing.

She worked as an assembler for Packard Electric. However, she may also be remembered working at the JC Penney’s Niles store.

Ann was a member of the North Mar Church and was very active there. She was also a member of the woman’s bowling league at Thornton Hall. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, and baking pies, especially using the apples from her own apple tree. Her signature dish was a strawberry pretzel dessert, and she lovingly passed the recipe to the next generation to enjoy. Moreover, she had a deep love for animals.

Survivors include: her children, Daniel Shugarts, of Long Beach, California, Timothy (Kammie) McElravy, of Clearwater, Florida, Thomas (Lorraine) McElravy, of Spring Hill, Florida, Elaine Chinnis, of Beech Mountain, North Carolina, Cynthia (Rodney) Harakal, of Spring Hill, Florida, Frank (Darlah) Shugarts, and Susan Shugarts, both of Brookfield; grandchildren, Justin, Samantha, Brittany, Jonathan, Erin, Jordan, Bonnie, Ryan, Kevin, Scotty, Lauren, and Haley; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Susan (Francis) Mangino and Cathy (Ron) Sain, both of Warren, Ohio; as well as her extended family.

She was preceded in death by husband, Frank, who died July 30, 2022.

A time of gathering for Ann will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 10-12 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. Her celebration continues with a service at 12:00 noon, also in the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
