Daniel Martino, a beloved husband, devoted father, loving papa, grateful brother, and all-around good guy, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, December 7, 2024, while in his sleep following a period of declining health. He was 90.

Dan was born March 7, 1934, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, one of 10 children to Ralph Martino, Sr. & Catherine (Sarcinella) Martino.

A 1952 graduate of Farrell High School, he furthered his education by receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University.

He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. He achieved the rank of Specialist E-4 and was honorably discharged from his duties on July 16, 1959.

After returning home, he continued his academics at Westminster College where he received a master’s degree in education.

Dan was first an English Teacher in Dover, Delaware for a couple of years. He came home and started teaching at Girard City Schools and eventually retired from Warren City Schools after dedicating over 36 years to his career.

He was a member of the Sharon First United Methodist Church. In addition, Dan was a past-president of the Warren Education Association. He was formerly active with the Brookfield Band Boosters, while his children were in school.

In his spare time, he enjoyed going out to eat, liked watching Turner Classic Movies, was meticulous about his yard work, staying current with politics, loved listening to country music, and appreciated attending festivals & fairs, especially for the food. Furthermore, he always looked forward to the annual family vacations at Myrtle Beach. However, closest to his heart was his love of family, more than anything, his granddaughter Callie, whom he treasured.

He is survived by: his beloved wife, Gwen, whom he married July 10, 1982; adoring children, Daniel J. "DJ" Martino (Stephanie), of Hubbard, Ohio, and Alessandra L. "Ali" Wasil (Andrew), of Masury, Ohio; precious granddaughter, Callahan "Callie"; and his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Jr., Frank, Jerry, & John Martino, Christine Sanitate, Angeline Lawler, Jenny Hinkle, Lucy Morocco, and Rebecca Fair.

A time of gathering to honor Dan will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4-6 PM, at the Sharon First United Methodist Church, 237 Silver Street, Sharon, Pennsylvania 16146. His celebration continues with a funeral service at 6:00 PM, also in the church. He will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the church.
