David Joseph Hernandes, of Hartford Township, Ohio, peacefully passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 28, 2019, at home following an apparent heart attack. He was 76.
David was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on October 27, 1942, a son to Francisco Dias & Veronica (Petyak) Hernandes.
A 1960 graduate of Rayen High School, he furthered his education at the New Castle School of Trades where he studied automotive technology.
He was the owner & operator of Dave’s Auto, a Gulf Service Station, Austintown, Ohio, and later Dave’s Auto Service, Hartford. In addition, he had worked for the former Pace Pontiac Dealership, Youngstown.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Ohio Army National Guard and a former member of the Austintown Kiwanis Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, attending dirt track racing events, and reading. However, he loved go-cart racing with his granddaughter.
He is survived by his son, David J. Hernandes, II & his wife Becky, Masury, Ohio; his granddaughter, Carolynn Jo Hernandes; his sister, Marian F. Hernandes, Liberty Twp., Ohio; and his extended family too.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his sister, Felicia Ann Hernandes; and by his former wife, Carol S. Sharpnack.
A time of Gathering will be held in Dave’s honor on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, from 5-7 PM at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield. He will be laid to rest with his family in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
As suggested by his family, memorial contributions can be made to his family c/o the funeral home.
