Donald William Logan, Sr.

Donald William Logan, Sr., entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 25, 2024, following a brief illness. He was 84.
Donald was born on January 29, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son to John & Isabel (Patsky) Logan.
He began working as a grocery clerk for the Kroger Company, while in Cleveland. He married Carole “Sandy” Gesce as a young man in 1959, and supported his family working a second job at Stoko Printing, Cleveland. After maintaining 3 jobs simultaneously, he decided to pursue a career with Kroger. In 1976, he moved his family to Youngstown, Ohio, and landed a position with Valu King. Following a divorce, he married Marina Dimitruli in 1979. He purchased his first supermarket in Mercer, Pennsylvania, in 1981. Here, he worked with his sons, Don Jr. & Jeff. In 1984, he purchased another store in North Lima, Ohio, and in 1990, his last store in Poland, Ohio. He was proud to own & operate three Giant Eagle Supermarkets along with his sons until his retirement in 2008.
He was of the Catholic Faith and held strong to the Catholic beliefs and education. In addition, he was a member of the Willoughby Lodge #302 F&AM, Painesville, Ohio.
Don loved wintering in his second home in Mesquite, Nevada, where the order of the day was golf, cocktail hour with his many friends, and evenings in the casino. Don was a motivated person, and he shared that trait with those he worked with as a great teacher and motivator. Being a big man, with a strong voice and great sense of humor, strangers quickly became friends. Employees lovingly referred to him as Big Daddy, to family and friends, he was the Big Kahuna. He lived his life with a tenacity to find the best in business, people, and life.
Survivors include: sons, Jeff Logan and his wife, Sarah, Don Logan, Jr. and his children, Mason & Taylor Logan; daughter, Michelle Plakosh and her husband, Joe; 3 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marina; and siblings, Robert & Lisa Logan.
A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor on Saturday, June 1, 2024, beginning at 12:30 PM, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 357 N. Main Street, Hubbard, Ohio 44425, where family and friends may pay their respects one hour prior from 11:30 until 12:30 PM.
