Emblem

Earl Paul Mott, of Hartford Township, Ohio, passed into life eternal on Friday, October 4, 2024, while at home and under N.E. Ohio VA Home Based Primary Care and Southern Care Hospice. He was 92.

Earl was born January 20, 1932, at home in Hartford, a son to Clifford Paul and Louella Harriet (Barbour) Mott.

He was a 1951 graduate from Hartford High School and shortly thereafter, enlisted with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. While serving aboard the USS Dodge County (LST 722), a landing ship tank vessel, he held the rank of Ship’s Serviceman Third Class and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal for Europe. He was honorably discharged from his duties.

Upon his return home, he attended Youngstown University on the G.I. Bill. During this time, he fell in love with a gal by the name of Phyllis Jean Hughes. They exchanged vows on February 16, 1957. Together, they started a family and born to this union were three children: Paul, Barbara, and Larry.

He was a hard-working man, who always looked to put his family first. He worked at Amweld Building Products, Niles, Ohio, and retired after dedicating 40 years of service to the company.

He was a former member of the Hartford Community Church where he was a Deacon and Trustee. He then followed his faith to Pleasant Valley Church of Niles, where he was an usher and known as the “candy man”. In addition, he was active with the Pleasant Timers, a care group of the church. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.

In his spare time, Earl enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and canoeing, camping, and traveling with his family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and proudly fostered children through the years. However, being home and with his family is what he loved the most.

Survivors include: children, Paul E. Mott, of Fowler, Ohio, Barbara M. Kroner, of Liberty Twp., Ohio, and Larry E. Mott (Denise), of Brookfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Craig Kroner (Jamie Marie), Timothy Mott, Matthew Mott (Emily), and Britni Hosfelt (Ricky); great-grandchildren, Caesare Brown, Athena, Orion, and Alexander Mott, with one on the way; siblings, Joseph Mott (Edith), of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Jane Gerasimek (George), of Transfer, Pennsylvania, and Marjorie Mote, of Hartford, Ohio; as well as his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, who passed October 10, 2020; grandson, James "Jamie" Kroner; and siblings, Merle Mott, Ann Barnes, Bernice Mott, and Harvey Mott.
