Florene Ham, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, entered eternal rest as her sunset on Thursday, January 9, 2025, while a patient at the UPMC Passavant-McCandless Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a period of declining health. She was 72. She was surrounded by a host of family members who lovingly supported her as she made her transition.
Florene was born October 10, 1952, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a daughter to Chester and Lelia D. (Evans) Bridges.
She worked in a number of places throughout her lifetime, including Golden Dawn, The Boyd House, and as a caregiver to the Champ family. Yet, she may be best remembered as a home health aide. Her kind heart and warm spirit is most impressionable to all who knew her, in addition to her fiery spirit.
Ms. Florene was a member of Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, Farrell.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing BINGO and shopping at Walmart. However, spending time with her family is what she loved the most. She especially enjoyed cooking big dinners for her family during the holidays, where many memories were made.
She leaves many family members to mourn her passing, including: her sons, Charles Carthorn, III (Aleta), of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Tino Carthorn (Cherise Lowe), of Farrell; 8 grandchildren, including special grandchild, LaFonda Carthorn; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerry Teague, of Farrell, James Teague, of Columbus, Ohio, Joyce Williams, of Farrell, Chester Bridges, Jr. (Betty), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Isaac Bridges (Rhonda), of Farrell, Lloyd Bridges, of Aurora, Colorado, and Sterling Bridges (Evelyn), of Warner Robins, Georgia; best friends, Mari Jones (a.k.a. Dee-Dee Carthorn) and Francine Talbert; and her fur child, Fanci Ham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Prentiss “Tutelo” Ham, Sr., who passed September 25, 2024; daughter, Leslie Brooke Carthorn; son, William Denson Carthorn; grandson, Amari Wise; granddaughter, Kenjai Ham; brother, Lonnie Bridges; and special niece, Marla Lites.
