Francis “Frank” Martino, of Hubbard, Ohio, was reunited with his beloved wife Penny and heard a voice say unto him “well done good and faithful servant” on Monday, July 25, 2016, while a patient in Saint Paul’s, Greenville, Pennsylvania, following a period of declining health. He was 91.
Frank was born March 14, 1925, at home in Farrell, Pennsylvania, a son to Ralph Martino, Sr. & Catherine (Sarcinella) Martino.
A 1943 graduate of Farrell High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. He achieved the rank of Metalsmith 3rd Class while he served with the Seabees during WWII. His unit was responsible for constructing the airstrip for the Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. While overseas, he exchanged letters with a gal by the name of Elizabeth “Penny” Madasz, who just happened to work with Frank’s sister, Lucy at Westinghouse. After an honorable discharge of his duties, the two married and soon started a family.
Frank supported his young family working as a supervisor for Sharon Steel, where he dedicated over 32 years before retiring in 1982. In addition, he was known throughout the valley as a stone mason.
His faith was very important to him. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, Hermitage, Pennsylvania, where he served as a Deacon for 52 years beginning with the Farrell Christian Assembly, taught Sunday School, was active with the Men's Fellowship, conducted the Young Married Couples Group, and helped build 6-7 churches in the Slippery Rock, Grove City, and Shenango Valley areas.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, attending garage sales, gardening, and traveling with the Happy Wonderers. More especially, he loved to worship his Lord & Savior.
He is survived by: his sons, Robert F. Martino & his wife Linda, Hubbard, and Thomas F. Martino & his wife Cathy, Mentor, Ohio; his grandchildren, Joshua Martino & Lisa, and Megan Bushnell & David; his great-grandchildren, Micah & Isaac Martino, Jonah & Roman Bushnell; his siblings, Daniel Martino & his wife Gwen, Brookfield, Ohio, Rebecca Fair, Sharon, Pennsylvania, and John Martino & his wife Jean, Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; and his many nieces & nephews; as well as his church family.
