George Anthony Rung, Jr., of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, received his wings on Friday, October 18, 2024, while a patient at UPMC Passavant-McCandless, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love of his family and following a valiant battle with cancer. He was 69.
George was born April 6, 1955, in Garmish, Germany, a son to George Anthony Rung, Sr. and Joan K. (Kolbrich) Rung.
He was a 1973 graduate of Sharon High School. Shortly thereafter, he fell in love with June A. Schell. They married May 8, 1976 and together started a family. Born to this union were two children, Kimberly and Christopher.
To support his family, George worked as an automotive parts salesman for Mercer County Automotive Warehouse, its successor companies, and NAPA Auto Parts. He retired in 2020 after dedicating many years of service to the industry.
In his younger years, he loved bowling at Thornton Hall Bowling Lanes in the Automotive Bowling League. He traveled to many state tournaments and was a one-time state champion. George also loved going on fishing and hunting trips with his dad and father-in-law. There were always great stories to tell.
His pride and joy was his family. He was so proud of his daughter and son, as well as their spouses. In his spare time, George enjoyed mowing his grass and watching his grandchildren grow in the love of their activities such as baseball, softball, and dance. He was always so excited for them. In addition, George loved bartending community events at the Yankee Lake Ballroom. He made many good friends whom he cherished deeply.
