Hazel Mae Cvelbar

Hazel Mae Cvelbar, of Salem, Ohio, formerly of Vienna, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, while a patient at Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman Campus, following a period of declining health. She was 94.

Hazel was born September 1, 1929, at home in Vienna, one of nine children to George E. & Hazel (Miller) Haynie.

A 1947 graduate of Vienna High School, she fell in love with a gentleman by the name of Edward Cvelbar. They exchanged vows on August 31, 1955, and shortly thereafter started a family. Born to this union were two sons, Edward and Dan.

She was a proud homemaker for her family who was a member of Salem First Friends Church.

In her spare time, Hazel enjoyed going to church, canning, cooking, and caring for her children. However, being a mother and grandmother was her biggest joy.

Survivors include: her son, Edward G. Cvelbar (Sherry L.), of Salem; grandchildren, Noah Tyler, Jessica Noelle, Julia Nicole, & Jennifer Danielle Cvelbar; and her extended family too.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, who died November 20, 2000; son, Dan Richard Cvelbar; and siblings, Robert, Howard, Dan, Walter, & John "Jack" Haynie, Annabelle McCabe, Ellen Money, and Georgia Hoskin.

A time of gathering to honor Hazel’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 10-11 AM, in her church, Salem First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Avenue, Salem, Ohio 44460. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband and son in Vienna Township Cemetery.
