Helen Louise Stacy, of Columbiana, Ohio, Beaver Township, closed her eyes and went to sleep on Thursday, May 5, 2016, while at home following a brief period of declining health. She was 98.
Helen was born on October 31, 1917, at home in Coitsville, Ohio, a daughter to George & Alice Gertrude (Ellis) Mound.
She graduated from Struthers High School in 1935 and met her future husband who was a hired hand on the family farm, Maple Glen Dairy, Struthers, Ohio.
George Omar Stacy and Helen Louise Mound joined hands in marriage on June 14, 1939. Together they started a family and born to this union were four children: George, Lyle, Rachel, and Kenneth.
They moved to Columbiana in 1950 and she worked beside her husband on their own farm. She tended to the chickens and established two fresh egg routes, one in Struthers and the other in Poland, for more than 40 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Columbiana; a past officer of the Farm Bureau; and held various other farm association memberships.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, so much so that she loving made close to 50 that she gifted to her family throughout the years. In addition, she loved reading, square dancing, and a good card game. However, most important to her was spending time with her family.
She is survived by: her sons, George E. Stacy & his wife Edwynna, Lyle E. Stacy, and Kenneth A. Stacy, all of Columbiana; her daughter, Rachel L. Kuhlman, Leetonia, Ohio; her eight grandchildren, Vicki & Andy, Justin & Adam, Stacy Lynn, Pat & Chad, and Loretta; her thirteen great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Betty J. Phillis, Ashland, Ohio, Doris Jean "Pepper" McGarry, Lowellville, Ohio, and Alice Ann Flack & her husband Laurrie "Dutch", Struthers.
She was preceded in death by her husband who passed on July 12, 1991.
A time of gathering to honor Helen will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM in her church, the First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Avenue, Columbiana, Ohio 44408. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 7 PM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.
