James F. Martin, of Brookfield, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, while at home following an apparent heart attack. He was 78.
Jim was born January 15, 1947, in Warren, Ohio; a son to Roosevelt and Simone (DeVera) Martin.
He was a 1965 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.
Jim or “Frenchie” as he was known to some, worked at Packard Electric (Delphi), where he was an Electrician, a Union Benefit Representative, and Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Coordinator.
His memberships included the Brookfield United Methodist Church, IUE-CWA: the International Union of Electrical Workers Local 717, General Motors Skilled Trades Retirees, Executive Committee Member of The Trumbull County Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 11, Veterans Service Commission of Ohio, First Italian Social Club of Farrell, and the Army/Navy Garrison of Hubbard, Ohio.
In his spare time, he enjoyed a round or two of golf, going to breakfast & lunch with his buddies, metal detecting, traveling, and camping. Jim most of all enjoyed spending time with family; especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly C. (Dias) Martin, whom he married September 6, 2007; children, Jim Martin, Jr. (Melea), of Warren, Ronnie Garvin (Erica), of St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry Parkany (Zandra), of Corpus Christi, Texas, Marc Becker, of Brookfield, and Kaila Mohney (TJ), of Howland, Ohio; grandchildren who loving called him “Papa Jim”, Kristopher Parkany, Sebastian Parkany, Jax Garvin, Emily Mohney, Cameron Mohney, Claire Martin, and Kit Garvin; sisters, Mary Lou Martin, of Austintown, Ohio, and Monique Mark (Rob), of Warren; and his extended family too.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joy Martin; and sisters, Margaret Grimes and Susie Torno.
A time of gathering to honor Jim will be held from 4-7 pm Friday, April 4, 2025, at Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Brookfield United Methodist Church, 6951 Grove Street, Brookfield, beginning at 11:00 am. Family and friends may pay their respects one hour before the service from 10-11 AM. He will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery with military honors.
As suggested by his family, memorial contributions can be made to the Trumbull County Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 11, c/o the funeral home.
