James E. Murray, Sr., of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Brookfield, Ohio, went home while a patient at the White- Cliff Nursing Home, Greenville, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, following a brief illness. He was 88.

James was born May 19, 1928, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son of James and Eileen (Sleigh) Murray.

Self was forgotten the day he left his home to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged of his duties and shortly after his return home, he married a gal by the name of Doris Mary McCarthy.

Together they started a family and born to this union were three children, James Jr., Gerald, and Donna. He worked long hours to provide for his family as a self-employed truck driver. Jim took pride in his vocation logging over a million miles before he retired. Later on, he worked for Manheim Auto Auctions, Tampa, Florida. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Farrell, Pennsylvania.

In his spare time, he loved playing poker, gambling when he had the chance, smoking cigarettes since he was six years old, and the attention from his fury companions, Dutchess & Mickey.

His survivors include: his daughter, Donna Mary Tamburro & her husband Ray, of St. Petersburg; his grandchildren, James Joseph Murray, Gerald P. Murray, Jr., Robert Joseph Murray, Brooke Marie Murray, Ret. Petty Officer Brian Anthony Tamburro, & Petty Officer Raymond Michael Tamburro; his thirteen great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ronald Murray, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Donna Mae Fragle, Farrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, who passed June 19, 1993; by his sons, James Murray, Jr. & Gerald P. Murray, Sr.; by his grandsons, Thomas & Gerald E. Murray; and by his sister, Eileen Koelsch.

A private graveside service will be held Monday, September 19, 2016 in Brookfield Township Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his bride.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Animal Welfare League c/o the funeral home.
