Jewel Mellors

After a wonderful 98 years of life, Jewel E. Mellors, of Hubbard, Ohio, died at O’Brien’s Memorial Health Care Center, Masury, Ohio, on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, following a brief illness.

Jewel, daughter of Joshua Osborne Evans and Muriel (nee Jewell) Evans, was born at home on August 6, 1919 in Brookfield Township, Ohio.

She graduated from Sharon High School in 1937 then furthered her education at the Shenango Valley Commercial Institute. In 1939, she gained employment at Sharon Steel as executive secretary to the president, where she met her future husband, Frank R. Mellors, Jr. They were married on December 12, 1953 and together they raised two loving daughters, Joan and Helen.

Jewel was a dedicated member of the Brookfield Christian Church, a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star #156, Farrell, Pennsylvania, and the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem #53, Grove City, Pennsylvania.  Jewel, loved by all, was an active, friendly person who was fond of sports, music, and loved animals, especially horses.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan F. Sonoga, Hubbard, and Helen M. Jackson (Richard), Roaming Shores, Ohio; her two grandsons, Nicholas Calaway and Derek Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Frank, who passed on October 6, 1992; and her siblings, Wanda Davies, Autumn Risch, Col. Daniel Evans, and Erwin Evans.

A time of gathering to honor Jewel will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1 PM. She will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery next to her husband.
