Joan "Joanie" F. Sonoga

Joan “Joanie” F. Sonoga, of Hubbard, Ohio, passed from this life during the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, while a patient at O’Brien’s Memorial Health Care Center, Masury, Ohio, following a courageous cancer battle. She was 69.

Joan was born January 12, 1956, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Frank R. Mellors, Jr. and Jewel E. (Evans) Mellors.

She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1974, furthered her education through the nursing program at Sharon Regional Hospital and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Penn State University, Shenango Valley Campus.

Joanie was a dedicated RN who showcased her talents throughout the valley working at many of the long-term care facilities. She especially loved working in the Alzheimer’s Unit at O’Brien’s.

In her spare time, Joanie loved her horses, Tonka, Smoke, Chance, & Patches. In addition, she enjoyed being outdoors, going to harness racing events, and attending the local fairs. She had a gentle spirit and a kinder heart. She will be missed.

Her survivors include: sister, Helen M. Jackson & her husband, Richard, Roaming Shores, Ohio; nephew, Nicholas Calaway & his wife, Shaun, & their daughter, Cameron; and nephew, Derek Jackson. She was especially close to her cousins, Mark (Debby) Evans, Todd (Polly) Evans, and Gail Evans Paul, who provided support, care and unconditional love throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In accordance to her wishes, no public calling hours or services will be held. Rather, remember her every day when the sun warms your face and the wind caresses you.
