TOGETHER AGAIN
Joyce Gail Algoe, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, passed from this life during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 30, 2024, while a resident in St. Paul’s Senior Living Center, Greenville, Pennsylvania, following a period of declining health. She was 89.
Joyce was born on May 18, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter to Ralph W. & Vernys (Cowdery) John.
She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1952 and furthered her education at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, where she became a registered nurse in 1955.
On September 10, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Walter L. Algoe, in the Masury United Methodist Church. Her attendant was a lifelong friend, Carolyn Werner Lewis. Walter & Joyce held hands for the next 62 years until his passing on June 22, 2017.
She dedicated 35 years to the care of others while working as a nurse, first for Sharon Regional Hospital and later retiring from Northside Unit of Youngstown Hospital Association. In addition, she worked together with her husband in Algoe Studio of Photography as a retouch artist and receptionist. And for 69 years, they were always together. The business retired in 2012.
Joyce was a charter member of the Hickory United Methodist Church; and belonged to the Ohio State Nurses Association; as well as the General Duty Nurses Association.
In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the family summer home in Canada.
Survivors include: her sons, Terence John Algoe & his wife Sandra, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and Thomas Blake Algoe, of Adamsville, Pennsylvania; grandson, Shawn Allen Algoe & his wife Rachel, of Mercer, Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Owen Allen Algoe and Avery Elizabeth Algoe; brother, Adrian Marvin John & his wife Sandra, of Andover, Ohio; and best friend, Carolyn Werner Lewis.
In accordance with her wishes, private services will be held for her family.
