Martin J. Bottar, Jr., of Vienna, Ohio, entered eternal rest late Tuesday evening, March 4, 2025, following a period of declining health. He was 87.
Martin was born September 9, 1937, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Martin J. Bottar, Sr. & Florence (Moroco) Bottar.
He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1956 and was a member of their 1955 undefeated football team. After high school, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps to protect our flag and to help keep our country free. He achieved the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged from his duties. In 1958 as a member of the Fourth Battalion 8th Marine Division, Martin did a cross Atlantic cruise on the USS Muliphen to Lebanon and took part in the Lebanese Crisis.
On May 8, 1965, he married the love of his life, Miss Elinor L. Mizicko and she became his world. They enjoyed travelling and listening to music at Packard Music Hall.
His working career started as a machinist at Sharon Steel. He then became a tool & die maker for Packard Electric. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the company before officially retiring.
Martin was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Vienna, Ohio; American Legion Post #299, Sharon; and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3521, Vienna.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, listening to old country and polka music, chopping wood, working in the garden and around the house as well as admiring his fruit trees. However, spending time going to his kid's sporting events, pulling his grandkids around on his gravely tractor, and having bonfires in the woods is what he loved the most. He taught his family the value of the dollar and the importance of investing early.
Survivors include: his bride of 59 years, Elinor; children, Heidi (Chris) Baldy, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Scott (Meridith) Bottar, of Blythewood, South Carolina, Holly (Bill) Cross, of Lyons, Colorado, and Jennifer (Rick) Lansky, of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Nicole, Ellie, Renee, Chrissa, Matthew, Jackson, Andrew, Ryan, Jack, & Samantha; step-grandchildren, Jess, Ben, & Beth; step-great grandchildren, Della, Aida, Alexander, and Allison and brother, Daniel (Judy) Bottar, of Brookfield, Ohio.
