Maryann Decker

Maryann Decker, who was born on August 16, 1947, to Joseph and Stella (Matushek) Kanaszka, in West Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, in Masury, Ohio, surrounded by her son Richard and close friends.

Maryann took pride in her strong Catholic faith, often reading her bible and watching Cornerstone Ministries. She also spent her days watching the New York Yankees and cheering on Aaron Judge.

You could often hear her telling stories about her yearly trips to Canada that she took with her husband and son. She was very affectionate towards her 6 cats (Misty, CC, Jeter, Gracie, Atty, and Wally) who she took in as strays.

Maryann was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Decker; and her parents.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Richard (Rick) Decker; along with Daniel (Jessica) Iyoob and Joseph Iyoob, her closest friends, who she called “her boys”. She also is survived by her sister, Geradette (Kanaszka) Jones; and a brother, Joseph Kanaska. 

At the family’s request, a small private service will be held at a future date. Donations can be made in her honor to your local humane society or animal shelter.
