Nick Zec, of Brookfield, Ohio, entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 28, 2024, while a resident of Countryside at the Elmwood, Hubbard, Ohio, following a period of declining health. He was 94.
Nick was born on January 8, 1930, at home in Orangeville, Ohio, a son to Steve & Anne (Rushata) Zec.
He provided for his family by working as a scale man for Sharon Steel, where he dedicated 30 years of service to the company before retiring. He also worked as an auto-bailer; mechanic of Jay’s Garage; and helped build race cars that ran at Sharon Speedway, as well as at other local tracks too. He was given the nickname of “Chief” and previously held a Sharon Speedway Track Record.
Mr. Zec was a proud member of the Farrell Serbian Lodge Club #68; Croatian Club of Farrell; and the Croatian Fraternal Union #126.
In his spare time, Nick enjoyed cooking lamb, chickens, etc. for various festivals, was an avid bowler, loved hunting, fishing, and making jigsaw puzzles. He always sacrificed his time for others and loved his favorite pop, root beer. He was a very generous man who had an extremely kind heart. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include: children, John B. Zec, of Fowler, Ohio, Dennis E. Zec, of Brookfield, Wendy Lucic, of White Oak, Pennsylvania, Annamarie Zec, of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Brian N. Zec, of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania, Stephanie L. (Dan) Juzbasich, of Youngstown, Ohio, Carla H. (Jud) Voorhees, of Columbus, Ohio, Veronica L. Christy, and Vannessa L. (Jim) Kolbrick, both of Hubbard; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Fager) Zec, whom he married November 8, 1959, she passed on October 22, 1994; granddaughter, Holly Zec; and 11 brothers & sisters.
A time of gathering to honor Mr. Zec will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, from 4-7 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2024, also in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest next to his bride in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
