Otha William “Pie Face” Hilton, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 21, 2024, while a patient at the UPMC Passavant-McCandless Campus, Pittsburgh, following a period of declining health. He was 79.
Mr. Hilton’s sunrise was May 1, 1945, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, as he was born a son to A.G. Hilton & Alice E. (Crosby) Friday.
He was a 1964 graduate from Farrell High School and shortly thereafter, enlisted with the U.S. Navy to protect our flag and to help keep our country free. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Sierra and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from his duties with the rank of Seaman 2nd Class.
Otha worked in several capacities within the Valley’s Steel Industry. He was a member of Valley Baptist Church, Twin City Elks, and the former Murray Bell VFW, Post #7597, Farrell.
In his spare time, Pie Face enjoyed shooting pool. He was the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan and also played semi-pro football for the Shenango Valley Blasters. However, lottery tickets were another passion of his. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his bride of 56 years, Morris Lee (Cottle) Hilton, whom he married September 21, 1968; sons, Cory Hilton (Shavette), Brian Hilton (Chrissina), both of Farrell, Jason Hilton (Lindsey), of Sharon, Pennsylvania, and Julius Hopson (Terica), of Huntsville, Alabama; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Curtis Hilton (Minerva), of Farrell; sisters, Bertha Blue (Willie), of Sharon, and Georgia Ruth Ellebie (John), of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as his sister-in-law, Shirley Friday.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cortney Hilton; and brothers, Anderson Hilton and Isaac Friday.
A Home Going Service to celebrate Otha’s life will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM, at Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon-New Castle Rd., Farrell, with Reverend James Hosey, officiating. Family & friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Military Honors will be rendered by the Wheatland American Legion and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.
