Prentiss "Tutelo" Ham, Sr.

Prentiss “Tutelo” Ham, Sr., of Farrell, Pennsylvania, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, while a patient at the UPMC Shenango Campus, Farrell, following a brief illness. He was 95.

Prentiss was born March 4, 1929, in Cheraw, South Carolina, a son to Jim and Lucy (Sanders) Ham.

He was a proud steelworker for Sharon Steel, where he dedicated 46 years of service before retiring.

Tutelo was a member of Valley Baptist Church, Farrell; United Steelworkers Union; and the Sharon Steel Retirees.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching old re-runs of Gunsmoke. Prentiss was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers & Pirates fan. However, and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his bride of 27 years, Florene (Bridges) Ham, whom he married October 10, 1996; children, Leon Buchanon, of Baltimore, Maryland, Tina Carthorn, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Lucy Ham, of Farrell, Sandra Kitt (Anthony Sr.), of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Kenny Ham, of West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, Charles Carthorn, III (Aleta), of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Tino Carthorn (Cherise Lowe), of Farrell; 21 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; his fur child, Fanci Ham; as well as a number of kids whom he was a father figure to.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Marry Orettia (White) Ham; children, Prentiss Jr. and William Carthorn; grandson, Amari Wise; granddaughter, Kenjai Ham; and 11 siblings.

A Home Going Service to celebrate Mr. Ham’s life will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon-New Castle Rd., Farrell, with Pastor T. James Harrison, officiating. Family & friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
