Richard “Rick” E. Novicky, Jr., of Niles, Ohio, went home during the early evening hours of Thursday, June 29, 2017, while at home and surrounded by the love of his family following a brave fight with cancer. He was 53.
Rick was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 1, 1963, a son to Richard E. and Norma Jean (Schoenfelt) Novicky, Sr.
A 1981 graduate from Hubbard High School, he furthered his education by obtaining his bachelors in education from Youngtown State University in 2002.
Teaching was his passion. He loved working with his 1st grade students at Newton Falls Elementary School, a position that he held for the past eight years. He had also previously taught at Legacy Academy for four years, as well as being a substitute teacher for several of the area school districts.
He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Warren, Ohio, formerly known as St. James Catholic Church.
In his spare time, he enjoyed kayaking, spending time with his beloved dogs "Brandy & Sydney", landscaping, and making creative concrete frog statues. He was ornery by default and was known for his great sense of humor. In addition, along with his brother Jeff, they never missed attending a Hubbard High School Varsity Football game, no matter how inclement the weather was. However, nothing pleased him more than to watch his Pittsburgh Penguins hoist Lord Stanley one more time.
