Robert James “Bugsy” Brown, Sr., of Sharon, Pennsylvania, transitioned from this life on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, while a patient at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a period of declining health. He was 79.
Robert was born February 1, 1946, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, a son to James Aaron and Rosalie (Evans) Brown.
He graduated in 1964 from E.E. Smith High School, Fayetteville and worked at Delphi Packard as an inspector for over 30 years before retiring. Bugsy was a member of IUE-CWA #717, Warren, Ohio.
Coach Bugsy, as he was known to the Pee-Wee and Midget Football community in Farrell, Pennsylvania, graced the sidelines for 40 years. In addition, he also played and coached semi-pro football with the Shenango Valley Blasters.
Bugsy enjoyed fishing, following all the high school sports, spending time on his boat, playing cards, and going to the casino with his daughter. Furthermore, he loved jazz music and concerts. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his children, Annette Montague (Leroy), of Farrell, Celeste McLean (Michael), of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Clarissa Harden (Daniel), of Farrell, and Reginald Davis, Sr. (Kendra), of Greenville, Pennsylvania; step-children, Marcia Gregory, Regina Campbell-King, Glenn Campbell, Chris Culp, and Terrica Culp; god-children, Marco Miller, James “Jim-Jim” Campbell, and Thad Austin; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Bridges, of Sharon, Christopher Brown (Carol), of Liberty Twp., Ohio, Donald Brown (Sylvia), of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Elton Brown (Andrea), of Farrell; as well as many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert James Brown, Jr.; brother, John Wayne Brown; and godson, Brice Hilton.
A time of gathering to honor Bugsy will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon-New Castle Rd., Farrell, Pennsylvania 16121. A Memorial Home Going Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor T. James Harrison, officiating.
