Robert "Sarge" Garhart

July 5, 1928 — May 8, 2015

Robert “Sarge” William Garhart, of Vienna, Ohio, went home at 4:20 pm Friday, May 8, 2015, while a patient at the Laurie Ann Nursing Home, Newton Falls, Ohio, following a period of declining health. He was 86.

Bob was born July 5, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son to Vincent & Ella (Anchors) Garhart.

A 1946 graduate from Rayen High School, he was proud to serve his country in the United States Army to defend our flag and to keep our country free. Following his honorable discharge, he married the former, Margaret Grgurich, on April 2, 1953.

He found employment by working as a Brakeman/Conductor for the Pennsylvania, Lackawanna, & Erie Railroad, Youngstown, Ohio.

Mr. Garhart was a former member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Vienna. He was also a member of the Vienna Fish and Game Club as well as the Vienna Senior Citizens Club.

In his spare time, Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians.

He is survived by: his lifelong friend who was more like the son he never had, Chris Pruitt & his wife Chris, Canfield; and his companion, Betty Hancock, Vienna.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, who passed on March 19, 1996; and his brother.

A time of gathering to honor Bob will be held from 10 am to 12 pm Monday, May 11, 2015 at Briceland Funeral Service, 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. His celebration continues with a funeral service at 12 noon. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.

As suggested by his family, material contributions can be made to the Senior Independence Hospice of Trumbull County, 6715 Tippecanoe Rd., Canfield, Ohio 44406.
