Rogerlyn “Mema” Marie Short, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, transitioned from this life during the early morning hours on Thursday, October 10, 2024, while a patient in UPMC, Jameson, New Castle, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness. She was 75.
Rogerlyn was born October 21, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter to Marvin Newman, Sr. and Ann (Brown) Newman-Flowers.
In 1967, she graduated from Farrell High School and attended business school to further her studies. She found employment at Sharon Steel as a data entry clerk and dedicated over 30 years of service to the company.
She was a devout member of Greater New & Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Sharon, Pennsylvania.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and baking. Mema’s pound cake and Texas sheet cake were outstanding. In addition, her homemade payday candy bars were also everybody’s favorite. However, it goes without question her devotion to her family and church was a true testament of her faith.
Survivors include: her children, Lynette Talley, of Farrell, Jacquelyn Newman, of Sharon, and William I. Newman, of Farrell; grandchildren, Ashley Frieson, Keisha Newman, Arnold Frieson, Alicia Frieson, Eric Stewart, II, Joshua Stewart, Stephen Newman, La'Naye Harris, Julius Oakes, Lionell Haynes, Brooklyn Newman, William Newman, Jr., and Jacob Newman; 14 great-grandchildren; great-granddaughter who was raised as a daughter, Sanayeh Thomas; brothers, Marvin Newman, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sylvester (Helen) Flowers, of Jacksonville, Florida; a host of nieces and nephews; special niece, Cheryl Covington; God-daughter, Teresa Davis; and caregivers, Rita & Kristie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jacob Short, Jr., whom she married December 31, 1979, he passed September 26, 1995; sister, Doris Ellerbe; and nephew, Robert L. Ellerbe.
A time of gathering in honor of Rogerlyn will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Greater New & Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 840 Highland Rd., Sharon, Pennsylvania 16146. A Home Going Service will be held at 11:00 AM, officiated by Bishop Alvin J. McCoy. She will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
