Shirley Schmidt

Shirley M. Schmidt, of Masury, Ohio, passed from this life on Saturday, March 21, 2020, following a period of declining health. She was 92.

Shirley was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, on November 10, 1927, a daughter to Russell & Mabel (Morgan) Sherman.

She was a 1945 graduate from Brookfield High School and had worked 20 plus years as an Insurance Agent for the P.L. Gibson Insurance Agency, Vienna, Ohio.

On November 8, 1947, Shirley married a gentleman by the name of Alfred L. Schmidt, and they held hands for the next 72 years.

Shirley was a member of the Central Christian Church, Hubbard, Ohio; Over the Hill Gang, Brookfield, Ohio; Sawhill Retirees; and the Hubbard Senior Center Card Club.

In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, gambling, going to the casino, working on jigsaw puzzles, needlepoint, and playing on her iPad. However, she truly loved attending her great-grandkids’ birthday parties.

Survivors include: her husband, Alfred “Smitty”; her children, Jeffrey L. Schmidt (Ginny), Vienna, and Denise A. Brannon (Reed), Elk Mt., Wyoming; her 6 grandchildren; and her 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Russell A. Schmidt; and by her brother, Chester Sherman.

In accordance to her wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
