Walter Joseph Church, of Youngstown, Ohio, entered eternal rest at 9:40 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2019, as a patient and under the care of the Oasis Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, Youngstown, following a period of declining health. He was 83.
Walter was born at home in Farrell, Pennsylvania, on February 20, 1936, a son to Walter and Stella (Kurcon) Kosciolek.
He attended St. Adalbert’s School and graduated from Seminary High School, in New Jersey. He furthered his education by receiving a bachelor’s degree in Theology from St. Charles Borromeo School, and attending St. Mary Seminary, both of Ohio.
A spiritual man, he found solace in Saint Adalbert Catholic Church, Farrell, Pennsylvania, where he dedicated many years of service to decorating and working in and around the church.
His vocation as a maintenance engineer landed him a position with Strouss Department Store, before he retired.
In his spare time, he enjoyed vacationing in Cancun, Mexico, traveling to Europe, making pierogis, and collecting religious icons. However, he loved anything related to St. Adalbert’s Church the most.
Survivors include: his brother, Raymond Kosciolek, Marysville, Pennsylvania; his cousin, Dolores Benya; his extended family & friends, especially the Serafin family; and his friend & caregiver, Marc Paoletta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Joseph Kosciolek.
A Memorial Mass with intentions will be held in his honor on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at 5:00 PM in St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church, 1035 Fruit Avenue, Farrell, Pennsylvania 16121.
