Wilhelmina “Mina” Beatrice Hawkins, of Sharon, Pennsylvania, witnessed the most beautiful sunset as she transitioned on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, while a patient at UPMC – Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a period of declining health. She was 73.
Wilhelmina was born September 2, 1951, in Sharon, a daughter to William H. & Lillie V. (Pass) Ford.
She was a 1970 graduate from Farrell High School and furthered her education at the Penn State University Shenango Campus, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in human relations.
Mina worked as a social worker for AWARE, ABDD, and Community Counseling. However, she retired from Whispering Oaks as a home health agent.
She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Sharon. In addition, she received a special recognition award from the Weed & Seed program.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family, tending to her house plants, and the company of her fur pups: Flapper, Babe, Toddy, Chichi, Harley, Pumpkin, Bizzy, and Nibbles.
Survivors include: her children, Lora Alexander, of Arizona, Tracey Thomas (Todd), of Huntsville, Alabama, Donyeal Scott, a.k.a. "Flapjack" & Clyde Hawkins (Keyona), both of Sharon; grandchildren, Secenea Moore (Patrick), Kendra Stewart (Cortez), Morgan Bradley, A’Bryia Hawkins, Bryron Bradley, Carnell Hawkins, Evan Hawkins, Braelin Hawkins, Doniae Scott, Ja’Juan Hawkins, Tizeke Hawkins, Jakai Hawkins, Zoe Scott, Vernon Hawkins, Jr., Tory Hawkins, & Torrence Hawkins; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Jasmine "Jacie" Lane, of Farrell, Pennsylvania; best friends, Jane Granison & Monica Williams; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Hawkins, Sr., whom she married September 2, 2001, he passed September 27, 2018; sons, James “Baby James” Hawkins Jr., Vernon Hawkins, & Torrence Hawkins; and brothers, Joseph T. Pass, William H. Ford, Jr., & Atlas A. Ford.
A Home Going Service to honor Ms. Wilhelmina’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 18, 2025, at New Hope Missionary Church, 370 Spruce Avenue, Sharon, Pennsylvania 16146. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10-11 AM, also in the church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Morefield Cemetery.
