William “Vic” Karlovich, of Brookfield, Ohio, was received in Heaven by his bride while a patient at the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio, on Thursday, July 21, 2016, following a brief illness. He was 89.
Vic was born September 10, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Blaź and Lubica Amelia (Terrihay) Karlovich.
Self was forgotten the day he left his home to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. Vic enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a teenager during WWII. He was honorably discharged of his duties on February 18, 1946 as a Seaman 2nd Class and after receiving the America Area Medal and a Victory Medal.
A welder by trade, Vic provided for his family the best way he could. He worked over 25 years for G.A.T.X., Masury, Ohio before the plant closed. In addition, he was the owner & operator of Sharon Welding Radiator; worked for Youngstown Kitchen as well as Mullen Manufacturing, Warren, Ohio. Vic was a member of Brookfield United Methodist Church.
In his spare time, he loved bowling in the Monday Senior Thornton Hall league, gardening, drinking wine, playing the harmonica, collecting lapel pins & ballpoint pens, doing yardwork, picnics, family get togethers, and putting on his Sunday best. However, he was probably best known for his ornery sense of humor, teasing everybody, especially his grandkids, and having "old school values".
His survivors include: his daughters, Vicki (Keith) Koss, of Brookfield, Darlene (Carroll) Riffe, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and Tami Anerino, of Brookfield; his grandchildren, Lance Koss, Angel Owens, Cara Riffe, Ryan Riffe, Cory Riffe, Vincent Anerino and Dominic Anerino; his seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, John Karlovic, Hubbard, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Freda L. (Coxson) Karlovich, who passed June 15, 2016; by one great-grandson; by his brothers, Edward, Charles, Robert, baby Charles, & Frank Karlovic; and by his sisters, Caroline Zitkovich & Danica Karlovich.
A time of gathering to honor Vic will be held Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 4 to 6 PM at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A Funeral Service will be offered on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Brookfield United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest next to his bride in Brookfield Township Cemetery with military honors.
The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Briceland Funeral Home to help defray the cost of the funeral service.
Expressions of sympathy may be left for his family at www.bricelandfuneralservice.com
Coordination of this tribute for Mr. Karlovich will be presented by Daniel Briceland, Owner & Director (330-509-3135).
